There are many hanging bridges in Spain but in general you have to travel inland into the mountains and they can be quite inaccessible for many people. The Jolúcar pasarela colgante is an exception, being the first such bridge on the Mediterranean coast and easy to get to from the beach resort of Torrenueva Costa in the Granada region of Andalusia. Depending on your own personal fear factor when it comes to heights and swaying bridges, it may disappoint, push you to your limits, or leave you quaking and unable to cross!

This suspension bridge opened to the public in May 2022. Its 60m in length gently rocks as you cross 32m above the beautiful waters of the Med. If that’s not enough for you, there are four glass panels half way across so you can look straight down! There is, apparently, a limit of 15 people on the bridge at any one time but we saw no warnings to this effect. As it turned out, we had it all to ourselves anyway.

The bridge is just a short stroll from the shingle beaches of Torrenueva Costa, but there are steps to reach the cliff top so it’s not fully accessible to those with serious mobility issues. The views along the coast are fabulous though. It’s well worth pushing yourself to the limit if you are quaking in your boots just thinking about this.

You can visit this hanging bridge as part of an 11km walk on the PR-A420 waymarked footpath. We haven’t done this circular walk but it doesn’t look too challenging. Have you walked the walk or conquered your fears on the bridge? Please let us know in the comments below.
