Sadly, this restaurant lasted only a few months. It was a real lesson in what happens if you don’t use social media and customer recommendations to build your business. A sad loss as the food really was amazing; so good that I have kept the blog post active!
There’s a new kid in town when it comes to Indian restaurants and Fireclay is authentically Indian. I’m not saying others are not authentic, but the range of dishes on offer at Fireclay takes going out for a curry to a new level. Located between the town of Rojales and La Marquesa Golf, it’s not quite on the beaten path but it’s well worth making your way there. Four of us visited Fireclay for the first time recently and it won’t be the last time!

There is a real price v quality problem with curry houses in Spain, and if you want cheap and cheerful you really are going to go elsewhere. This was high quality, but at a price. With that in mind we decided to go for special curries rather than the traditional ones that I would probably go elsewhere for. We left with no regrets as the food was stunning.

The starters were excellent. The Chole Chana was so good that I really want to try to recreate it at home! The pakoras were great with a pastry very different to what we’ve found in cheaper places. The onion bhajis were a little small and dry, but very tasty nonetheless.

Main courses. Well, where to start? Two of our party went for the Railway Lamb Curry and I swear I saw them cry, not from the heat of the curry, but from the delights on their tastebuds! It gets its name from the traditional curries served on Indian trains. The chicken curry was so plentiful our friend couldn’t finish it. Me? I went for the Rajasthani Laal Maas which is a rather unusual game meat curry. Yes, it was pricey but oh my word, what a curry! It was beautifully spiced for me (who likes a hot one) in a rich sauce served in a terracotta pot. The meat was cooked on the bone and there was so much of it I took half of it away with me. Now that is very unusual. I usually manage to clean my plate!! We polished off two bottles of wine between the four of us and with a couple of bottles of water that made our bill over €30 each. Even so, we tipped generously as the food was just so good.

So why only a four star review from us on Google Maps then? Well, the service does need to improve. We were the only diners at the beginning of our visit despite it being a Friday evening, and yet we felt anonymous and ignored. By the end of the meal the service was perhaps over attentive! Something somewhere in between is needed throughout the customer experience. There is also a lack of Social Media action and these days it is sadly necessary to get your message out there. People need to know you exist, so hopefully this blog will go some way towards addressing that problem. More customers are needed both to create a better atmosphere and to ensure survival in a very competitive market as we really want to come back!!
Have you been to Fireclay yet? Please let us know what you thought once you have visited!
