Come to Guardamar del Segura and try out some wine! Sounds tempting, doesn’t it? Well, on Wednesday 10th June you have the opportunity to take part in some wine tasting while raising money for a local good causes. This is part of a week of gastronomic festivities to celebrate Guardamar’s famous signature food, ñora and langostina.
It’s just €5 a ticket (proceeds go the charity) and takes place at Restaurant Rincon de Pedro on c/Nicaragua at 8pm. The presentation will be translated into English if you need it, so don’t let any doubts about your language skills put you off! The four wines you will get to try all come from the Nuestra Señora de las Virtudes bodega at Villena, Alicante. I, for one, am really looking forward to it.
After the wine tasting there is a dinner which costs a further €10 including another drink! The menu is simple but tempting. Hopefully it also utilises the products for which the festival is being held:
Apple Salad, Croquettes and Tiger Mussels
Fideua or Entrecote
Flan or Coffee Cake
If you would like to join me and a whole load of other Guardamarrencos then head to the Tourist Information Office in Guardamar where they will be happy to sell you a ticket. They also have a nice little leaflet (in English and Russian) showing you where you can go for some rather more expensive menus featuring ñora and langostina. You can find the Spanish version online.
Oh, you want to know what a ñora is? Well, it’s a small, sweet red pepper which is grown locally and dried naturally in the Guardamar sunshine!
