Catch a glimpse into Spain’s rural past at Elche’s Museum of History and Arcaeology (MAHE). It’s a lovely place to escape the summer heat for a while, and this photography is absolutely free. Mind you, it’s only €3 to visit the museum itself, so you might want to call in there too. A virtual tour is available on Youtube.
This wonderful exhibition is made up of 95 black and white photos showing rural scenes around Spain over the last century. It is separated into different sections like fishing, farming and transport, and the Spanish isn’t too hard to follow with a decent app or a dictionary. Pictures speak louder than words though, and this collection speaks for itself.
It would be churlish of me to publish lots of photos on this blog, so I hope this short selection will give you a taste and encourage you to go to Elche and see it for yourself.
You can visit Monday to Saturday from 10:00 until 18:00. On a Sunday they close at 15:00.
