One of the best things about having friends all over Spain is getting told about places that you just wouldn’t have found by yourself. We love Granada and we love the free tapas there, but it can get a bit “samey” with the usual choices everywhere. That’s why we were so pleased when we were introduced to Bar Poë tucked away just outside the wandering gaze of most tourists. Why do we love it so much? Read on!

First and foremost – the food! The tapas you get with your drink is cooked with love and a touch of African spice all the way from Angola. The dishes range from pinchos (kebabs) to spicy piri-piri chicken with vegetarian options and even super spicy liver for those that like something different. Everything we have eaten there (I think we’ve now tried almost everything!) has been delicious.

Of course, a good bar is not just about the drinks and the tapas. It’s also about the people. Matthew hails from Portsmouth, England whereas Ana is from Angola. She’s the reason for the wonderful food! Between them they have created an amazing atmospheric bar which has more than stood the test of time. When you see this travel blog from ten years ago, you’ll see how little has changed and yet the quality has never dropped.

Back in 2011 the bar was featured on Spanish TV and you can see how lively it is in there. This has not changed at all over the years. Towards the end of the video you get to see Ana in action in the kitchen too! Don’t worry if you can’t understand the Spanish, just enjoy the show!!
There is also a slightly weird short film called “Territorios” that Matthew was in and some of which was made in the bar. It’s in Spanish but don’t let that put you off!
